Do you like that communicate with people? Have you ever thought about importance of words? Three years ago, I learned an important attraction of words through contact with many people. Words seem to be simple on the surface, but I think they may be the most difficult of all things. If these words are not Japanese but English, what do you think? Let’s thinking, everyone!! I thought that words are decoration or expression of myself until recently. In addition, I thought when I was talking, I always used only good words because I thought it is the best means to disguise the real me. But I was told that not only good words but also any words have strong influential for me through my best friend. That is to say, even if it is normal for me to saying some words, someone does not have same heart with me.
In this summer, I was given a chance to think about English through contact with many foreign people. I understood the importance of expressing my feelings or opinion surface not only think in my head but also my feeling in speaking. To speaking not language of native country, English isn’t very worry. I have fixed idea that I mustn’t make a mistake. However, I have also pressure if I mustn’t speak, I can’t tell my feeling. I studied abroad in Australia during summer vacation. At that time, my British friend said, “say your feeling!! All languages are existed to communicate with people. You shouldn’t be scared of mistakes forever. No, you can get English skills just by making mistake again and again. I always try to speak Japanese words, when I study Japanese even if I don’t know the meaning of the word. I’m not ashamed to make mistakes. Words are beautiful bridges to connect people to people.”
After that, I tried to tell my feelings and I want to talk actively. In spite of not having enough English skill, they listened so hard and seriously. Therefore, I would like to acknowledge their hope hard. I didn’t notice entirely because I was really ecstatic, but I thought that I could build a bridge of words with them. I’m really thankful to them. I had thought conversation makes up of many words and correct grammar until now. However, I noticed through this experience which even if I only exchange greetings with many people, this is enough conversation!!! At the same time, I could change my attitude toward English.
Finally, I could learn a new favorite word through this experience. The word is “Opportunity”, because I think that I want to always grasp a golden opportunity. Besides, I thought that I would like to find my favorite word more and more in such a golden opportunity from now on!!! Words have a very strong power. It can change a person’s heart in a matter of seconds.
By the way, do you have an opinion? “Word”. This is speaking, listening, writing and reading. I mean to say, words are the best way for describing our feeling at will. That is to say, this is the bridge of word. Japanese, Chinese, German…there are languages in all over the world. Even if we speak different languages, we have the same heart and action. For example we show our emotions and we try to tell our opinions. In other words, feelings are the same all over the world. We have something beautiful in common, and I would like to build many bridges of words in the world through language someday, because we encounter ourselves and our humanity when we learn new words.

One Coin is Important!!! (my essay)
Have you ever thought about the importance of a hundred yen? I think many Japanese waste too much money. Not all countries in the world are rich countries. If each of us saves only a hundred yen, we can help many kids in poor countries. A month ago, I saw a program about it on television. I was really moved to tears by this TV program, and I felt their problems immediately. A hundred coin has a great weight and power. So, if you would think about it, these children must be really happy and appreciate you.
In fact, there are volunteers, fund-raising and other campaigns in the world. Do you know of any? For example, Volvic (mineral water) had a campaign. It was called “1 liter for 10 liters”. African children were given 10 liters of mineral water for each 1 liter of sales by Volvic. In addition, you can aid education in many foreign countries. For example, in Bangladesh, they can buy fourteen pencils or a child can study in after-school classes for twelve days if they have one hundred yen. And in Thailand, they can stock twelve ball-point pens, ten notebooks, two dozen of color pencils and pencils each. But we can give money not only to education, but also for medical services. For example, an undernourished child can go into hospital for a day in Burkina-Faso. And in Nepal, they can supply fourteen vaccines and four safety delivery kits. Thus, we can support them in various ways. A hundred yen may be tiny for us, but it is very valuable in the world. “Just a coin, but a coin”.
When I watched the special program on television, I gasped with surprise. One girl didn’t know water is clear because she always drunk only muddy, unsanitary water with rainwater, bugs and elephant dung in it. It’s too terrible!!! At that time, some Japanese decided to make a well and would like to let her drink clear water. However, in order to make it, they need a lot of money because making of a well is expensive. How did they solve the problem? It’s very simple. There are many volunteers in Japan. Some elementary school students contributed a coin each for making a well in Africa. If a hundred people each gave a hundred yen, they can gather a ten thousand yen. It’s amazing!! Please remember that when people work together to solve problems, any can be solved.
Japan is one of the safer and more convenient countries. Therefore, we sometimes forget the value of a hundred yen. When I was a pupil, I thought hard about how to buy as many cheap sweets as possible with a hundred yen. Perhaps you also experienced something like this. I suppose that we never forget the importance of a coin. Many of us adults may need a more supple mind. If you save a hundred yen everyday for a month, you can accumulate money which is about three thousand yen. As the saying goes, “Little and often fills the purse”. In the future, I hope it’s normal for everybody to save money and contribute to helping others. The education and environment of poor countries must be changed. We must not forget the importance of a coin to form a peaceful world. After all “a coin is important!!!” Don’t forget, your coin can save poor children from suffering.
